Congress Approves Uncapped 30% Tax Credit for Wind Turbines

The United State Congress passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act late Friday evening. President Barack Obama is expected to sign the bill into law on Tuesday.

Included in the legislative package is an uncapped 30% tax credit for the installation of small wind turbines. The 30% tax credit applies to all types of taxpayers - individuals and businesses alike. The 30% tax credit is calculated based upon the total installed cost of your installation of one or more wind turbines.

Meeder Project

We finished the Meeder Project yesterday. The turbine is mounted on a 45' tower. It went up with out a hitch. Antrim County Crane came out and installed it for us and did a good job.

The weather some what cooperated with us, other than the snow which made it difficult to get the pole moved around. We managed to get the loader stuck.

But no the less it is up, now if we would get some wind things would be much better.

Keep your eyes open the newspaper was there and did a story on us installing the turbine.

Updates on current project and software updates

Friday we will be installing the Meeder's turbine in Antrim County. I will be posting pictures of the installation when it is done. Since we have had a warm up we will get this unit installed.

I was out to the Flynn project observing her turbine with the new software update and it was spinning without interruption. Before the update, when we had high winds like today it was shut down more than it was running. I posted the output for that unit yesterday. Before the update the turbine was down on kilowatt hours for the month. But since I install the new software the turbine has made that up very quickly. 175KWH for the month of January. Down a little from the previous month, but I except a very large increase for the month February.

Software updates

Well I just got back from the Thumb today from a two visit over there. I was completing all my turbines that I installed last summer installing the inverter updates. The update which is standard on new turbines that I receive now, will allow the turbine to run better. The updated now makes the unit a full 2.4kw turbine. Which before it was 1.9kw. It also keep the turbine from shutting down all the time during high wind gusts. So for those that maybe out there and have not had their dealer do this update yet. Give me a call and I will be happy to install it for you.

I will be heading to Ludington tomorrow to start on those units that my dealer had installed in that area. So once those are done all the units that I maintain will all be using the same software.

Updates and New Product announcement

Well it has been awhile since I blogged about anything, so I thought I would give you a little update on the 62' tower in Caro, MI. I spoke to the owners the other day and they said it had produced 410 kwh for the month of December. That is the most I have ever seen any one unit produce in the Mid-West. So the good news is I can a get person wanting a 60' unit like this into for around $18000 - $19000. I will meet or beat anyone's price on a unit this size, that is in writing from a company that installs wind turbines.

The benefits of being this high is because the wind is always moving. I know that the unit in Caro, MI is always spinning. When the unit less than a mile away, which is 45' tall, will not be spinning as much.

I will be back in the Thumb soon to give some of the units a software update that was just released for the inverter. So it will be interesting to see how that will effect the performance of these units. I will blog as this information becomes available.

I am also offering a new wind turbine to those that may need a bigger unit. They come in a 6kw and 15kw unit. I have decided to take on the Proven wind turbine line. This turbine is made in Scotland. I can be put on a 60', 80', and 100' lattice type tower. I do not have a price on these units yet, but I am in the process of putting together a price for couple that I meet today that own a horse farm that need a least a 6kw unit. Now is the time to buy

The reason I say that it because I ordered a new wind turbine for a customer in the Thumb about 4 weeks ago and they tell me it will be another 8 weeks before it arrives. So here are a few more reasons to buy now.
1. Submit paperwork to your zoning official for approval, 2 weeks
2. Submitting the net-metering agreement for the power companies approval, 2- 3 weeks
3. Once you have the zoning permit, building permit is submitted, 1-2 weeks
4. Once all the first two are approved order new turbine, 8-10 weeks
5. Do all these items now, ready to have installed by the time the snow is gone.

On average it takes 8 - 10 weeks to even start installing that new wind turbine on your property.

So call for an appointment to get yours installed as soon as Spring is here.

For those of you that look at Wunderground to find out what the weather is at the Flynn project, that weather station is down. I need to climb up the tv tower and change the batteries in the weather vane. I will also be moving that weather station to the thumb and install my weather station that I have here at my office on the Flynn project, beause the one here is solar powered.

My weather station at my office will be getting a new Davis weather station.
